CHINT CJ19 Contactor Series are capacitor switching contactors designed for connecting and disconnecting low-voltage capacitor banks in reactive power compensation (APFC) systems and power distribution panels. They are not general motor contactors — they’re optimized specifically for capacitor duty, where inrush currents are high.

Key Functions & Purpose
Switching capacitor banks: Used to control shunt capacitors in power factor correction equipment.
chintglobal.com
Improving power factor: Helps automate capacitor steps to improve system efficiency.

Inrush current handling: Designed to handle the high inrush current when capacitors are energized. Standard contactors can be damaged by these high transient currents — CJ19 includes internal suppression features to mitigate this.

How It Works
When a capacitor is switched ON, there is usually a very high inrush current. The CJ19 design has built-in current limiting and pre-charge resistor arrangements that reduce the peak surge, protecting both the contactor contacts and the capacitor itself. This makes them safer and more reliable than general-purpose contactors for this application.

Typical Applications
Automatic power factor correction (APFC) panels
Low-voltage capacitor banks in industrial/commercial power systems
Reactive power compensation in distribution networks and utility equipment
Variants & Models
The CJ19 series covers a range of ratings — common examples include:
CJ19‑32 Contactor – ~32 A typical selection for medium-sized capacitor steps
CJ19‑25 Contactor – Lower current version
CJ19‑43 Contactor – Slightly higher rating
CJ19‑95 Contactor – ~95 A for heavier duties
CJ19‑150 Contactor – ~150 A industrial application
(Various coil voltages and auxiliary contact arrangements are available depending on the specific variant)
